Credit is not math. It's not science. It's a system—one created by people, shaped by profit, and often misunderstood by those who live within it.
The problem in dealing with credit is that it’s like going to the mechanic and the dentist at the same time. It’s scary, invasive, confusing, and you kind of always feel like you may not be getting a fair shake. Should you choose to ignore credit, however, things can break down and become very painful. On the flip side, just like good hygiene, or good maintenance, proactive credit management can keep things clean and running smoothly.
The difference can be hundreds of thousands of dollars and a change in lifestyle that can free you. A reduction of 1% on a typical mortgage in California can easily save you $100,000 over the life of that loan. Credit can affect what you pay for car loans, credit cards, utilities, and so much more. If you spend a little bit of time and a little bit of money keeping your credit monitored, managed, and manicured, you will be drastically changing the trajectory of your financial future.
Some experts say that today’s digital system of credit in America is designed to shove everybody into the middle scores, where profits are the highest for banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, etc. Is that a fair assessment? We have heard many people say that they pay all their bills, yet they don’t seem to have a great credit score. The special offers and elegant lifestyle seems, for many, just out of reach.
Credit’s modern form in America is rooted in the early 1800's when mankind’s belief systems were very different. Motivations, however, were very similar. Many had no rights at all, and the system was slanted against them. The Fair Credit Reporting Act came along in the 70’s and was meant to iron out the rough spots, if you will. But where does credit stand today in the digital age? The one thing that I can tell you with confidence is that we should always ask that question. As a matter of fact, I can think of a few more important questions.
We started Credit Dogma because it’s our belief that you should Question Everything about your credit! There are many, many cooks in the kitchen. Shouldn’t you be the Head Chef of your own financial path? Here are just a few of the things that you should be wondering about:
- Who is reporting on my credit bureaus? (Equifax, Transunion, Experian)
- Are there other factors besides the three credit bureaus that affect my overall credit?
- What is my FICO score?
- What is my lender ranking?
- Am I doing the best job of monitoring and responding to happenings on my personal credit and in the credit world?
- Is my credit score indicative of who I am financially?
- Am I utilizing debt properly?
- What changes could I make that would have the most impact easily and quickly?
- Am I paying too much interest?
- Why did I get declined for a loan or credit card?
- Is the information on my credit reports accurate?
- Are there things on my credit report that don’t belong to me?
- Am I hurting my credit accidentally?
- Am I getting credit for all my positive accounts?
I can think of soooooo many more questions, and then once we talk to each client, we have so many more.
Credit can be an incredible steppingstone to life-changing opportunities. Although some would also say that credit can ruin you. At the core, credit is surveillance on you, a judgement of you, and an invasion into privacy that allows those that would profit from you to share the most intimate of details about you. But, is that picture accurate? Are you the person that your credit says?
A credit manager with Credit Dogma is a trained expert with certifications in many aspects of credit. Many people think that they can DIY their credit or just pay all their bills on time and solve everything. Some people also try to diagnose their illnesses by plugging their symptoms into a search engine, completely disregarding doctors with actual medical degrees. LOL. For the very lucky few that have never needed assistance with their credit, we tip our hat to you. For the other 99%, we are here to help.
We don’t believe in the showboat credit repair industry. We don’t make illegal promises and guarantees that are against the law and unethical. Those companies are always getting sued, and you may always be caught in a dispute cycle with them. At Credit Dogma, we do disputes for free, and within compliance. More importantly, we do the other 90% of the work with you including helping you with vital financial advice and education, assessment and planning of your credit utilization, debt management, planning for current, future, and unexpected financial events, credit fraud risk assessment and mitigation actions, constant credit monitoring and review of your credit score, and more that is tailored to your specific situation.
At Credit Dogma, a lifetime membership gets you access to our suite of partners. We have strategic concierge type relationships with loan vendors, credit card companies, debt solutions providers, and many more financial companies and specialists. It’s much better to know the exact requirements from a loan vendor, tailor your credit management to that loan, and then work with that specific vendor with that loan personally, then get a few disputes done and then be thrown out there to figure it all out. The Credit Dogma difference is dramatic.
